The fire station has been in Bardfield Road for approximately 55/60 years. Prior to this, it was next to the Rose and Crown pub, and before that, next to the Church.

The station cover a large area including; Thaxted, Lindsell, Broxted, Wimbish, Debden Green, Little Sampford, Great Sampford, Little Bardfield, Oxen End, Sibleys Green and Monk Street, Tilty, Hempstead and Helions Bumpstead.

The fire station is crewed by on-call firefighters. This means the firefighters respond to their pager from their normal place of work or from home. When the firefighters are called to an emergency, they could be dealing with many different types of incidents, not just fires. Firefighters also get called to road, rail or air incidents, floods, chemical spills and rescuing people trapped in lifts or other confined spaces.

As well as fighting fires and attending incidents, firefighters are also called upon to provide community education and advice on fire safety.

Essex County Fire and Rescue want 100% of homes in Essex to have a working smoke alarm. The fire service will visit your home completely FREE of charge and fit working smoke alarms on every level of your home. Go to their website for more home safety advice: www.essex-fire.gov.uk.
